INTRODUCTION
A. Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me To preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives And recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed; 19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. (NKJV)
B. A miracle is an extraordinary work of God, going beyond the ordinary powers of nature, for which God has a distinct purpose in mind.
1. GOD USES REAL LIFE TO SHOW HIMSELF STRONG IN US.
A. John 9:1-2 As He went along, He saw a man blind from birth. 2 His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” (NIV)
B. Exodus 20:5 I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me. (KJV)
C. John 9:3 “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” (NIV)
D. The Bible gives us at least three reasons for sickness.
- 1. There is a sickness unto chastisement.
- 2. There is a sickness unto death.
- 3. There is a sickness unto the works and glory of God. It is a sickness or a handicap that God allows so that either:
- - a. It can be healed supernaturally.
- - b. It can build a ministry.
- - c. It can build our character.
E. John 9:4-5 “As long as it is day, we must do the work of Him who sent Me. Night is coming when no one can work. 5 While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” (NIV)
F. In John 9:4-5 Jesus is saying:
- 1. God has a purpose for every situation and every person we encounter.
- 2. We are on assignment from Him in a world that is in spiritual darkness.
- 3. We have a time limit to get the job done God has called us to do.
- 4. Don’t waste your life on things that don’t matter. Put your energy into making your life count by touching those God brings into your life.
Matthew 5:14–16 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
G. John 9:6-8 Having said this, He spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. 7 “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam.”

2. WHEN OUR RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS BECOME MORE IMPORTANT THAN LOVING OTHERS, SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH US. (John 9:13-25)
A. John 9:13-25 They brought to the Pharisees the man who had been blind. 14 Now the day on which Jesus had made the mud and opened the man’s eyes was a Sabbath. 15 Therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.” 16 Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath.” But others asked, “How can a sinner do such miraculous signs?” So they were divided. 17 Finally they turned again to the blind man, “What have you to say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” The man replied, “He is a prophet.” 18 The Jewish leaders still did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight until they sent for the man’s parents. 19 “Is this your son?” they asked. “Is this the one you say was born blind? How is it that now he can see?” 20 “We know he is our son,” the parents answered, “and we know he was born blind. 21 But how he can see now, or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age; he will speak for himself.” 22 His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for already the Jews had decided that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Christ would be put out of the synagogue. 23 That was why his parents said, “He is of age; ask him. 24 A second time they summoned the man who had been blind. “Give glory to God,” they said. “We know this man is a sinner.” 25 He replied, “Whether He is a sinner or not, I don’t know. One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!” (NIV)
B. To love your neighbor as yourself really means to do to others as you would want them to do to you.
C. The opposite of Golden Rule is an attitude of a judgmental spirit.
D. There are some things that the Bible says are clearly right and wrong. Standing for right, according to the teaching of the Bible, is the ‘Jesus’ response.
• John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your Truth. Your word is truth.”(Jesus)
E. In the gray areas of life, live your convictions and leave others alone.
